The 6 quirky things meme/Vintage Thursday Thingies

ok...so Lit and Laundry has challenged her readers to take on the "6 Quirky Things About You Meme" - here goes about moi:
  1. In my younger days I broke my collarbone watching a rugby game - to this day it still is lumpy and sticks out somewhat.
  2. If I didn't pluck my eyebrows I'd have a big old mono-brow.
  3. I love seeing praying mantis around my house in the summer - my daughter and I let them crawl all over our hands.
  4. I absolutely hate seeing gray hair on my head so I dye the roots once a month.
  5. I like to vacuum my bed each time I change the sheets so those awful dust mites stay right away!
  6. When I was 21 I had a "Navy Party" - I was going out with a marine/navy boy and he invited all his friends - we had a blast!

Right ok...now it's your turn - if you want to do this it's all yours :-)

Here's my Vintage Thursday Thingies for this week:

I LOVE to collect vintage and retro magazines. I adore reading the stories, studying the advertisements and admiring the fashions. Here are some I have in my collection:

The American Weekly - 1949.

Woman at home 1953

Patio and garden ideas 1977

Womans Journal 1955

These SO inspire me. I love studying the advertisements and looking at the fashion articles. What inspires you?

Hi Amy! I am looking forward to rejoining Vintage Thingies Thursday after traveling all over the place for 10 days (am slobbing around the house for next week or so, recovering!)

What amazing magazines - I adore them too, they are the most fun ever! I dragged my dear patient family into some mighty dusty bookstores while we were away, hunting for old magazines and stuff - they were very sweet about it, too.

Those magazines are precious! I too, love seeing high fashion at that time! How feminine the girls are! I wish I could look like that now! LOL

I love old magazines, I enjoy seeing
the past. These are wonderful, I
love the artwork and colors! The
patio mags are cool. I've seen
homes decorated like this in the
1970's!

Wonderful collection!

At one time I collected vintage magazines, too. I lost them when Katrina blew through. Seeing yours almost makes me want to start a new collection.

I'll do a feature on your blog tomorrow! Thanks for doing the meme.

I have a bunch of Newseek magazines from the beginning for WW11..I love them, and hate them at the same time. Its sad to see how naive we were going into it, but at the same time, I miss that innocence in our country.

anyway that got more morose than I meant it to.

Cute blog!

I loved viewing the magazine images you shared this week. If I am ever so lucky to see an old magazine I'm very interested in all the advertisments. I study them too!
I can't say I love seeing a praying mantis. They are bit creepy for me. But I let them be and do their thing.
( I have gray hair I hide too.)
Happy VTT!

I love the old vintage magazines too! They are fascinating! You have some terrific ones!
Once I started reading a story in an old Ladies Home Companion--I didn't realize it was to be continued in the next edition!Needless to say, I still wonder what happened to that poor little rich girl!
Blessings to you!

Those magazines are so great with those perfectly coiffed women staring into the air..dreaming of Mr. Right. Love it.

I had a big box of old magazines (National Geographic) and I wasn't sure what to do with them, but I've now decided to have my students go through and find old ads and we will put them up on the walls of my classroom. I think they will have a great time doing it and it will be fun to have them on the wall.

Wow, your mention of the praying mantis brought back uneasy memories. I love a praying mantis when she's in the right place...outside.
